Wednesday

The end of the day on Wednesday...

And a quick sketch of Wednesday, the cat, or "meow meow" as Amira calls her. Really she is much quieter since Amira arrived in our family. She used to be really vocal. She used to wake me up in the morning by patting my face with her paw, and when my eyes opened she would howl. This was generally around 5 in the morning. That behavior cost her the privilege of sleeping in our room. She is much calmer now, and of course older.
The flowers are hydrangeas from the bush outside. I have never seen so many beautiful bushes of hydrangeas before moving to Dorchester. It seems like every house has a bush and each one is gorgeous.
And as this Wednesday is coming to a close it is time for me to go to bed and sleep like the other members of my household. Maybe after work tomorrow we can all take a walk and see the flowers in bloom.

Long Weekend with the Fam

Don't be fooled, Amira only stayed in this position for a minute...

The evidence of her energy is visible throughout the house.

So we let her run in circles, and chased her and played-and then took time to ourselves to work on some projects.

I should have a completed project to show soon, I am at the point where the end is in sight!

But, it is hard to sit still when Amira is dashing about.

What a cutie! She is saying so much now, "please" (peas) "thank you" (dank goo). What a polite girl, she must be getting this from daycare-so we can feel good about that. She says "get down" "bye bye" "cat" doggie""uh oh" and of course "mommy" and "daddy" and "no" (etc). We can almost have mini conversations now!

***This is my 100th post! Which I am proud of because I don't think I have ever kept a diary so long, and this is a sort of diary. It has gone in a different direction than I originally intended, but it keeps going, and that is good.***

Flower Making in the Snow

A shop in Providence call Mod Mama has started selling my hair clips and head bands. I have been busy making a new batch to send. With all the white and gray outside, some bright colors are a nice pick me up.

I have also been trying to do some painting on a more regular basis. But it is a messy process and Amira likes to put everything in her mouth. She also likes to have what I have, specifically- her own set of paints will just not do if I have a set I don't want her to touch. So paintings are quick and left unfinished for now. But Amira pulls her chair up to my desk and tries to work next to me, and we both make some messy pieces together, and it is wonderful.

Some things I've crafted

Last weekend was the RISD Holiday sale, my booth above. Everyone complimented Amira on her good behavior. (Thank you Adrian.) For awhile she slept in her stroller, right where the chair is above. People would look at the hats, turn to the pillows, and startle-"there is a real baby right there!"
I mentioned in my last post that Amira and Adrian were sick over Thanksgiving. Amira was over it by the fair, Adrian, almost, but not quite. And me, it hadn't even hit yet. But this week, I was knocked out. I was miserable at work on Monday, and have been out since. Tuesday, Amira is home with me. I felt so bad, I just sat on the couch, but she was so good. Bringing books to read, and playing with her toys. Yesterday, Adrian pulled all of my yarn next to my spot on the couch (which is the whole couch) and I started making some more flowers, which helped perk me up a little bit. I think he may have been tired of seeing me drowning in self pity. Understandable. These past two days, home alone, it is the first time in a long time I have had so much time to myself. It's a shame I don't feel well, but it has made me appreciate how busy I am normally.

Blue Sky

I am working on finishing up some projects as I am participating in the RISD student and alumni sale in October, which I haven't done since I was a student. And the blue sky and crisp leaves are reminding me daily, October is right around the corner.

I will be selling baby blankets, some baby hats and clothes, and a variety of pillows.
I have a lot of finishing to take care of.

I have only been making baby items since I had a baby, so they are still more intimidating for me. Pillows on the other hand I make all the time. Pillows can be little canvases. I am feeling the same way towards blankets-however, pillows are smaller and therefore a little easier to accomplish.

And smaller projects are more suitable to me these days as no day is predictable.

Color Story

We went to see some old friends of my husband's last night, and stayed out a little late.
White:

We put Amira in her stroller and she fell asleep in their play room.
Pink:

We ate so much food:
Red:

guacamole, baklava, Bulgarian cheese, crab cakes, grilled chicken, potato salad...
Orange:

wine, beer.
Yellow:

I hoped the late night would encourage Amira to sleep a little late...
Green:

...I know better than to believe that.
Blue:

So we got up, ate breakfast and took a little walk.
Purple:

Soon we will be getting ready to head off to a wedding.
Brown:

We are attending weddings this weekend and next.
Black:

But right now, we are just playing at home.

Baby Things

A little baby sweater, a little too small now for my baby. I imagined her size while she was asleep. She is growing faster than my minds eye can keep up.

The start of a little dress. This does fit her, with a little room.
Some fun little flowers.
Amira is walking now, not gracefully so she is especially adept at injury. However, her climbing is more worrisome, she is as I write, repeatedly climbing into Adrian's desk chair and standing up. She is sitting now, but I am looking at her while I type because is only takes a second...

We are stuck in the house on this rainy day-quite literally moving in circles.
Maybe we can start to circle around the bed and both of us can get some more zzzzzzzzzzzs. Isn't that what rainy days are for?

Another walk, another color story.

Walking through the streets of our Dorchester neighborhood today, it began to rain.
Just a little.
White:

I like looking at all the houses, the patterns of the shingles, the size of the window, what is in the windows (some glass bottles, a barking dog, a lace curtain.)
Pink:

I turned around, but by the time we got back to our street the rain stopped. Amira, agitated that the stroller stopped, pressed me with her babels to walk some more.
Red:

Going into other peoples spaces, seeing where their furniture is, what is worn where, what nick knacks are scattered about, the towels in the bathroom-all of it is interesting to me.
Orange:

The most mundane details of life.
Yellow:

I guess I am what one would call a looky loo.
Green:

Growing up my mom was always bringing us to open houses, hoping to find her dream home.
Blue:

Amira and I took our time looking at our neighbor's flowers. So many people keep their front yards so neat!
Purple:

The rain started and stopped again and again but was never too heavy.
Brown:

Amira kept leaning forward.
Black:

A man coming down his front stairs saw her and smiled big. "These are the best days of your life" he said.
Gray:
