Time for Play

Yesterday I got almost everything on my list done-(the rug still needs to go to the cleaners, and there are a few more fruits to cook for Amira.) We even had time to play on the porch!

Today I have to go to work in the afternoon, so we don't have anything on the agenda except for the normal getting ready items:
  1. Shower
  2. Pack lunch for me and Amira
  3. Pack bags
  4. Leave on time
And with my new clean home maybe I can do a little drawing?! My guess - Amira has other plans:)

Baby Shrug

I stayed up last night finishing this little shrug. I have been playing with the idea of doing some little charms-but haven't quite gotten around to making them. The little button on this shrug is one of the ideas, a little image in a crocheted frame. The bird image made me think of the crochet work as a nest.
Lately, I have been shrugging my household chores in favor or crafts or playing with my baby. This sounds like a fine way to live, but Adrian has been picking up the slack. So today I am dedicating to our home. I have already swept and mopped the studio, living room, and foyer and loaded the dishwasher.

Other tasks for today:
  1. Put away laundry,
  2. Clean kitchen, including floor
  3. Make some food for Amira
  4. Have lunch with Adrian:)
  5. Bring rug to cleaners?
  6. Make dinner (but it is soo HOT here)
  7. Pick up my desk!
We'll see how this goes...

Bedtime...zzz...Waketime
Last night I was supposed to put Amira to bed. I don't know if her habits are changing, or if her teeth were bothering her, or if I just was doing something wrong, but I could not get her to sleep! Ugh, this is the 3rd time this week. I get her calm, I get her to lay in her crib with her eyes closed, and I stir her up by attempting to leave the room. After an hour of this I came to get help from Adrian, (who usually peeks his head in by this point) only to find him asleep in the living room! I suppose I should have taken this cue to go back to the baby's room to keep Amira on some sort of sleep schedule (part of sleep training right?), but instead we decided to play a little in the living room. Adrian had no choice but to wake up and we all lounged together before Adrian successfully got Amira to go to sleep.

I agreed to watch The Road with him-I was sure he would fall back asleep and I could change the channel, but he stayed awake throughout it. The film was pretty good, but I was on edge the entire time-I find I am less and less able to watch any suffering, even when I know it's fiction.

This morning I woke up early and was able to make a cup of coffee, do a little crocheting, and help Amira practice walking around before I went to work-and we let Adrian sleep in (until 7am-lucky guy!)And now it's bedtime for our baby again! Yes, Adrian is in the bedroom with her while I am typing this...

Everything Blue!
I finished the dress I sketched over the weekend. What do you think? Not too far from the original idea. Though, there are things I would do differently the next time, I like the way the fabric came out. Not quite plaid, not quite tie dyed. Just some soft summer blues.

Happy Father's Day!
I unfortunately, was not able to spend the day with my father, though we had an early morning talk, chatting about, soccer, Amira & work. I spent the day with Amira and her sweetheart father. Today the air was very thick so we we down to a local park and splashed around in the water.
Adrian gave a talk about Durer at the MFA today, so Amira and I went to the store and picked up some grub for the week. And then, I made dinner for Adrian (surprise, not just chips and beer:))- a meal my own father would have enjoyed I think. Steak, pepers, onions-and Adrian drank his homemade beer out of his handmade stein with a picture of him and Amira.

Today's Tasks:
Take a picture of Amira in hat: Check!
Enjoy the summer weather: Check!
Check!
Bonus!
Playing at home,
and starting a new project.
And we even replaced the light bulbs in the kitchen and washed the dishes (now that we can see how dirty they are!)
Helmet style Hat
I have been starting some smaller projects so I can feel more accomplished-the large afghan is taking forever, and I can get a little obsessive about have something to show for my time. I also wanted to play with some new patterns-shells-circles-trims, so this little hat was a good project.
I want to show it on, but Amira hate wearing hats. All last winter she pulled them off her head-I'm amazed we kept all her hats. She generally throws what she is not interested in on the floor.

My tasks for today:
Get a picture of Amira in this hat!
Enjoy the summer weather :)
Buy light bulbs for the kitchen-blah

Bird Charm
Made a prototype for a bird charm for the charm blanket I am starting.
Now, off to bed...zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz
TUESDAY!!!
Tuesdays are my day off, and so Amira and I get to bond all day together. Today, we sat on the porch and Amira got to play in her tub of water. She is getting braver-first she just splashed with her hands and threw her toys in and out, then she would dip one foot in at a time, last time she stood (holding the porch rails) with both feet in, and today she just plopped her whole self in, diaper and all! Yeah-Fun!
Adrian had to leave work early today, and lucky us because that meant he was home early too. We got ice cream cones from JP licks (coffee and strawberry rhubarb-we did share with Amira-just another addition to the Things-I-Thought-I-Would -Never-do-as-a-Mother list). And we took a stroll around Jamaica Pond.We came across this tree which is scarred top to bottom with initials. The tree has grown with these carvings, and they have warped with the tree so many can't be read, and some have stretched out of proportion...
I did tell Adrian he should carve our initials in, but really I can't help but feel for the tree! The others around it have been left unmarred, but now this tree invites those who would otherwise leave it alone to carve into it! So I am torn between appreciating the evidence of peoples romantic tendencies and feeling empathetic toward a tree.Back at home, I am figuring out next steps.
And amusing myself by wrapping up Adrian while he is trying to work:)
And another Tuesday approaches it's end.

Daily Messes:

I slept in until 6:45 today! But because I thought I should be awake, I kept having strange dreams connecting people and places from different moments in my life-not very restful. I woke up to Amira and Adrian in the living room. They were sitting on my (in progress) afghan and Adrian was squeezing the blow fish so a puff of air would hit Amira's face-to her delight.

Around the house, there are so many moments of left over activities-
Where I get ready in the morning, a chaos of accessories,
A stacking of old photos in boxes and bags,
The console table, where everything is dropped for coming and going in and out of the house.

Maybe I should keep my clutter to myself, but all these little piles are just time running into space. We spend a lot of time picking up-but we spend more focused on other things, which I am quite fine with!
